The documentary, Sensitive: The Untold Story, is a “must see” in understanding why certain people are more vulnerable to addiction.  Psychologist Elaine Aron explains that 20% of the population (women and men equally) are, due to their genetic makeup, more sensitive to their surroundings, their own emotions, and those of others.  This makes them particularly more vulnerable to psychological injury at young ages…and it is just these hurtful experiences during adolescence that many addicts recounted to me as being the cause of their turning to drugs.

Highly sensitive people can be particularly influenced by both bad and good events, but considering their significance as a population and the fact that 60% of adults report having experienced an adverse childhood events, There are millions of people vulnerable to addiction.
